How to Avoid Bruises: The Do’s and Dont’s!

There are many factors that go into a Botox and Juvederm injections and there are ways to help avoid those unsightly bruises! Here are some tips to help avoid getting undesired results!

**Medications to discontinue at least 7 days before injection:
Ibuprofen (Also found in Motrin, Aleve, Advil)
St. John’s Wart
Omega 3 fatty acids
Vitamin E
Ginko Bilboa
-If you are on necessary blood thinners such as Plavix, Coumadin, or Warfin please stay on them just know that you are definitely more likely to bruise from these injections! Plan way ahead for special events such as weddings and reunions.
*These medications tend to thin the blood which more likely causes bruising!

*If you NEED Pain medication before or after injections Tylenol is the best option!
*No Garlic 2 days before injections as this also tends to thin blood.
*Take Bromelain supplement or start eating pineapple a few days prior to injections. (This can help bruises to heal faster.)
*Stop drinking alcohol at least 2 days prior to Botox and filler injections
*Take Arnica Montana pills a week prior to injections to help avoid bruising! * Don’t take if you have high blood pressure or heart problems.
**Please keep in mind if you are prone to cold sores our physicians will prescribe you Valtrex after your injections if they were done around the mouth area!
DURING the Treatment

*Numbing cream will be applied to make the experience more enjoyable
*The physician’s technique and experience makes all the difference! Make sure you are in good hands! Dr. 95350 only has physicians that have a lot of experience and if they see a bruise they will immediately apply pressure, ice, and Arnica.
*Ice will be applied directly after the injection is finished and you will be sent home with an Ice pack.
AFTER Treatment
*Benadryl can be taken the night after the treatment! This helps to reduce swelling.
*Ice can be used for comfort and to help reduce swelling
*Remember it can take fillers a full 1-10 days to fully “settle”
*No direct sun until swelling has resolved
*Try to avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours after treatment
*No exercise except for walking for 24-48 hours after the procedure. Keep your heart rate under 100. Do not do any inversions in yoga or do hot yoga.
*Do not squeeze or massage area for several hours after treatment
Remember Botox takes several (3-7) days to fully kick in!
*If you do happen to have pain, Use Tylenol
*If you happen to get a bruise or redness you can apply make up or lipstick to the area to cover it up until it completely heals!
*Arnica gel and Bromelain can be used to help speed up the healing process of the bruise!
